Helmets Up Warriors!!
Today I ran my first Warrior Dash and it was such a blast! One of the girls I ran with has really bad knee problems so we definitely took our time to complete all the obstacles - but in all honesty, that just made the fun last longer :) The official photos from the event will be posted online soon and I’m hoping they got a shot of me jumping over the fire obstacle!! Watch out...

As Promised
My first day on the job, enjoying a free Diet Cherry Coke! The past two weeks have been such a whirlwind of excitement. For one, I’ve finally settled in to my new apartment for the summer (which is an amazing 6 minute commute to Coca-Cola). I was a little nervous about moving in with 3 random roommates, but when I found out that 2 have already moved home for the summer and the other one pretty...

Recap tonight - be ready!
Hey everyone! My apologies for falling off the blogging bandwagon recently – things have been absolutely crazy lately and I’m just beginning to get in the swing of things. I promise to post a great recap of all my Coca-Cola/moving to Atlanta excitement this evening when I get home! Let’s just say the entire experience has been unbelievable so far and I can only imagine the surprises the summer...

A Yearly Challenge
Moving in general is not one of my favorite activities – but moving everything by myself? My yearly nightmare – especially this year… It took me about 3 hours to make the numerous trips from my fourth floor dorm to my little ford focus and it was absolutely exhausting. All I can think about is how much easier (and quicker) the entire process would be if I had the extra helping hands of my parents....

I Survived!
Thank you everyone for the amazing birthday wishes!!! My 21st was a complete success and I am SO GLAD it’s over. Here’s a little recap of all the excitement :)  We began the night at Fuzzy’s Taco Shop (since I LOVE their margaritas and Sangritas!), and of course, Shelli was there to celebrate <3 And I was so happy when two girls I met freshmen year (and we haven’t...

I was placed in foster care, in a different home than my younger sister and most days I just want to curl up and hide inside my head forever. i stopped letting people in long ago, even talking on a basic level is difficult. thank you for sharing your story, thank you for helping me.

I say that I never work out, and then I sign up for the 2012 Warrior Dash. It’s May 20th so it’s time to kick this cheese fry eaten butt in shape!!! Here’s an overview of the race: “Warrior Dash is the world’s largest running series and the ultimate event for thrill-seeking athletes. This 5k race is held on the most demanding and unique terrain from around the...

Lies, Lies, Lies
Doctor: I don't see too many people with such a low heart rate. 57 beats/minute is really good - you must be a runner.
Me: Thank you! Yeah I run a little bit, I try to stay as active as possible.
What I should've said...
Me: Actually doctor, I run 2 times a month if I'm lucky. My workout routine consists of waiting tables, carrying around trays of sweet tea and shoveling cheese fries in my mouth.

The Gift of Life
I know it’s super cliché, but I’m a people person. As I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, I’ve got an interesting story- and I know others do as well.  I love learning new things about people…including complete strangers. And that’s why I’m a waitress and it’s the best money a college kid can make. You wouldn’t believe the incredible stories I hear from people who have known me for less than an hour. ...

HR at Coca-Cola Called Me Yesterday
And I’m happy to say that this summer might be the first time that I’m not stressed about money. Even though I’m living in Atlanta and I’m going to be paying a hefty sum in rent, my hourly rate at Coke is more than sufficient!! Let’s just say it’s above $15/hr :) :) :)

Stan's Rules: Living By Extremes
Stan only believed in extremes – there was never any happy medium. Like everything else my siblings and I learned from him, we learned this the hard way. We made this mistake many a times, especially in the summer. We’d all sit around the campfire - usually in complete silence – with my mother and Stan huddled close to each other on one side, my siblings and I on the other. Sometimes the kids in...

Secrets
In my journalism class today, we watched a video news story that follows the life of a Kentucky mother as she struggles through drug court. The woman is a mother of five who battles a pill addiction, and eventually loses her children and is sent to jail. While my classmates viewed her story in disbelief – asking themselves how such a story could possibly be true – all I could think about was how...

My Tumblr Buddy Really Outdid Herself This Time
I left the Student Learning Center at 2a.m. and I could hardly wait to pickup my package. Being the frugal college student that I am, the first thing I noticed was that she spent $17 on shipping - that right there is enough to say thank you! I hurried to my room and opened up a box packed full of incredible goodies! Swedish Fish: Love, Love, Love Sour Starburst Jellybeans: How did you know that...

Facing Defeat
Tonight was elections for 2012-2013 Executive Board members of PRSSA and unfortunately, I wasn’t elected as President or Vice President. Even though it’s not the end of the world since I didn’t win (I did get the Coca-Cola internship which is an incredible opportunity both professionally and networking wise), I can’t help but wish the outcome was different. I keep thinking about the little things...

I Called My Mom Back
She got a new job working at IHOP and Olive Garden, and she seems to be doing well. We were tip-toeing through conversation topics – just asking the basic “how’s work/life/school?” questions, and then I asked her if she understood why I haven’t called her in so long. She apologized and I forgave her because that’s what I do, but I’m definitely taking baby steps with our relationship this time...

Apartment Success & Phone Call From Mom
I ended up leasing with WestMar Student Lofts because they were (by far) the cheapest place to lease in Atlanta. (I looked at student housing and it was ridiculous! If I wanted to live in Emory’s intern housing it would’ve been $27/day!) Now that I’ve figured out where I will be living, the internship feels so much more real! In a little over a month, I’ll be working at the Happiness Factory!...

Let the Apartment Search Begin!
Now that reality has finally sunk in (and all my hard work paid off), I’ve begun searching for nice, affordable housing options in the Atlanta area. I don’t want to spend anymore than $700/month on rent and utilities and even that’s pushing it. So far, WestMar Student Lofts seem to be the best option so I’m going to Atlanta tomorrow for a tour of the complex. They’re...

Coca-Cola, Here I Come!

No News is Good News
Since I didn’t hear back from Coca-Cola today, that means I’ll hear from them tomorrow for sure. Until then, I’m going to shamelessly go to bed at 8 p.m. because I’ve been going non-stop since this process began. Hopefully my Friday will begin with good news, but if not, it just wasn’t meant to be. Think positive thoughts everyone!

I Pulled an All-Nighter
Not because I had to, but because I was on a roll with my Coca-Cola writing assignment. If I don’t get the internship it’s not going to be because I wasn’t prepared for the interview, it’s going to be because I am not the best candidate for the job. If anything, I’m wayyyy over prepared which I completely prefer. fingers crossed, fingers crossed, fingers...

It's Going to be a Longggg Day
Instead of going home after the 3AM showing of The Hunger Games and sleeping like a normal person, I headed to Starbucks to get some work done. Here’s what I hope to accomplish by the end of the day: 1. Complete two news articles for Journalism class - I attended a few guest speaker events the other day and I have to write an article summing everything up. This shouldn’t be too...

The Rules: Stealing Quarters
Stan has a trailer on Cayuga Lake where my siblings and I spent our summers. It was about 30 minutes away from Auburn, the town where I used to live. Each morning, my mom would drop us all off at the YMCA to catch the bus to Camp Y-Owasco before she went to work. Then at around 5, she would pick us up and take us back out to the lake. The camp didn’t provide lunch for the children so it was...

Phone Call With Josh's Father
I called to talk to Josh this afternoon and since he was outside playing, I spoke with his adoptive father for a few minutes. I’ve had my ups and downs with Josh’s adoptive parents, but I have to bite my tongue because they are the ultimate deciders in whether or not I can communicate with my brother (at least until he turns 18). Usually it isn’t an issue, but today his father mentioned a few...
